SCRAP booking...i am so glad that you asked this question, because i personally think that all the "products/industry" is outta hand (to some extent)...
a lot of people think that SCRAPBOOKING=LOTS OF $$$
that doesn't Have to be the case...i have gotten swept up in the spend spend spending of scrappin' and now my credit card balances are screamin' at me to do something different, the other thing i have noticed is that i have done more shopping in the last couple years than i have creating...it has become more of a collection of product than a book (or more) of documented memories!
when i first started scrappin' i used glasses/cups and other items from my kitchen to make shapes to cut/frame my pictures
i used cardboard from any cereal box/shoe box to make my own stencils
if you 'invest' in some basic acrylic paints ($.44/bottle) you can make your own 'color scheme' and paint just about anything to go on your page (staples, ribbon, rope, paperclips, paper, cardboard embellishments)
i have found letter/number stickers in some unusual places like (vhs labels, junk mail) and i have even gone so far to use the rest of some sticky paper from packaging to trace and cut out my own letters...
a lot of random office supplies are a popular trend now, surely those are available to you
look in your bedroom for fabric, buttons, thread that you can use (hand stitching is beautiful and original-draw lightly in pencil first and follow the line with the thread)
raid your bathroom for ribbon, nail polish, etc.
raid your garage...
my take on SCRAP booking is that it is just that SCRAPS of our life ~ from our life, home, work, environment ~ the picture captures the moment in time and the journaling gives an explanation... anything goes when it comes to being creative and that essentially is what it is all about anyway...
by the way, you can even make your own books....
hth

I made a couple of recipe scrapbooks as gifts. I never learned how to "officially scrapbook", so I just wing it. I found some decals and other accessories in the clearance aisle of Walmart and use them as well as pictures from old cookbooks to adorn with. On one intro page I got an old black and white picture of my grandmother from the early 1950's and added a recipe that my mom had gotten from her. It really meant a lot to my Mom. Have fun coming up with your own memories!

I stay in an costly city on the east coast - and that i knew that abode made invites have been a secure thank you to pass financially. i became waiting to deliver one hundred invites out for decrease than $one hundred.00 I went to the close by papier save (or is it papery?) besides and offered coloured inventory approximately 4" x 6" and printed the wording in table format using notice so i ought to get 4 invites consistent with printout. i found a superb parchment paper that became very inexpensive and it had the classic look i became attempting to end. I glued (with a glue stick - do no longer use a bottle - it is going to style bubbles)to the inventory. I then offered a superb ribbon to tie around the invites and rsvp returns. the only adverse journey i will say approximately it became that it became very time eating with each and each of the stairs interior the technique, even though it became way rather well worth the attempt understanding that my coronary heart became poured right into a word for an exceedingly specific social gathering.

When you get junk mail, there are often nice pictures that you could use somewhere. Also nice lettering, like maybe Holiday Greetings or Happy Birthday. Cut those out too.

Instead of die cuts, just cut your own shapes from old greeting cards or magazine pages. gardening magazines have the best pages!
