yes and no... it was inspired by the likes of the angler fish which is a real fish. There are others with bio-luminescent "lights" on their bodies as well.

Great question!!! Yes that fish is real:
Common Name: Deep Sea Angler Fish
Scientific Name: Melanocetus
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Sub-Phylum: Vertebrata
Class: Osteichthyes
Order: Lophiiformes
Family: Melanocetidae
dont worry if you are like me and have no idea what any thing in that table means Here is an easier one:
Anglerfishes are bony fish in the order Lophiiformes.
An anglerfish has a head of enormous size, broad, flat and depressed, with the remainder of the body appearing merely like an appendage. Anglerfish may grow to a length of 200 cm (6.5 feet); specimens of 90 cm (3 ft.) are common. Its maximum weight is 30 kg (66 US lbs).
Anglerfishes are, for the most part, deep-sea fish, though there are some families that have shallow-water representatives, including one, the frogfishes (family Antennariidae), that occurs only in shallow water. Examples of other anglerfish families that have some shallow water species are the goosefishes (family Lophiidae) and the batfishes (family Ogcocephalidae). These families also have deep water representatives. The deep-sea mid-water anglerfishes belong to the superfamily Ceratioidea.
But Finding nemo portrayed the size of its light ang the way the face looks.

well some what...it is kind of a cross of a hatchetfish and an anglerfish which are both deep ocean fish found about a mile down. the glowy thing is evidence of a process called bioluminescence. And just like in "Finding Nemo" the fish really used that light to attract its prey.(even thought Dory and Marlin wouln't be located in those depts.)

Is it Finding Nemo day? I think you are the second person to ask that same question today. But, it is a great movie. I watched it on Saturday. That is one cool fish. Most everybody else already gave the correct answer for the name of the fish, so I'm not going to bother saying it again. I think there are some fish that live on the very bottom of the ocean that have their own luminescence.

Yes, it's called an Angler Fish, or a Lantern Fish. They live in the deep part of the ocean and use their "light bulb" and lights on their bodies to attract other fish so they can eat them, just like in the movie. I loved that movie....

A little information.....

Angler fish may grow to a length of 200 cm (6.5 feet); specimens of 90 cm (3 ft.) are common. Its maximum weight is 30 kg (66 US lbs). Angler fishes are, for the most part, deep-sea fish, though there are some families that have shallow-water representatives. Angler fishes are named for their characteristic method of predation, Angler being another word for fisherman.
Hope this helps....
