Basically, a thesis statement declares what you believe and what you intend to prove about a topic. You should always include a well-developed thesis statement in the opening paragraph of an essay, research paper, report, thesis, etc.
For your particular question, a simple thesis statement would be along the lines of "When comparing the two characters of Anne and Margot Frank in 'The Diary of Anne Frank,' there is shown many differences between them, but also several similarities."

Then you would outline these similarities/differences into paragraph form to create the body of the essay, the finish with a strong concluding paragraph that ties everything you have written together in a neat package.

Hope this helps

While Anne Frank's faith was ultimately in the goodness of humanity, Margot's faith was in the God of Israel.

my instructor is the queen of thesis statements. to her it's the debate in your paper. it's where you take a stand and it tells the reader what your paper is going to be about. good luck.

I would just give a brief overview of their relationship but don't make it too broad
