My doc had a mini-ultrasound machine that let us see our baby at the first appointment - which was so cool! but it was just a mini machine for kicks, not one that could really do the due date measurments or anything like that.

You can request it, but your doctor and your insurance may not think it is necessary at an early date, without any risk factors. Thus you may have to pay out of pocket. Estimating date from measurements at a very early gestation isn't as accurate as it will be a bit later on, anyway, since they estimate age by the size of limbs and organs. Your best bet for EDD is knowing when you conceived, anyway.
Secondly, most women do NOT deliver on their due date. Anywhere from 37-42 weeks is considered 'term' - that's 4-5 weeks of flexibility.

You can request one but the doctor will probably tell you if it's necessary or not. Having more than one is really more than you need in my opinion.
Mine went by my LMP, and we had an ultrasound at 22 weeks to do the measurements.

Throughout my whole pregnancy they have been relying on my LMP. I didn't get an ultrasound until 20 weeks. I have heard of women getting ultrasounds to confirm how far along they are. So I hope you are one. Good luck.

it all depends with my 2nd at my first they gave me an ultrasound before they even gave me the blood work but with my 1st they didn't. i'm sure if your willing to pay they would go ahead but if they don't do it anyways i wouldn't bother because when you go around 12 weeks or so they check if the dates matched. either way i don't think are very accurate for both my pregnancies they were different and i even knew the exact date of conception with the 2nd. like kids i think babies grow at their speed and pace that one week could be completely diff then the other.

My first son: they gave an ultrasound right there at the first appt.
Second son, different doctor: they had me make a separate appt. for the ultrasound, about 2 weeks later.
For both, they used the ultrasound pic to determine due date.

I'm 9 weeks.
For my first appointment, I had to do a urine test, a blood test, a breast exam, and she did a quick internal.
4 days later I had my first ultrasound.
Depending on insurance, I only get 2, once in the 1st trimester, and 1 in the 2nd or 3rd. Unless there is a problem.
Good luck!!!
I'm due Oct 20.

It is not routine on the first visit and you can request one but they might tell you they don't see it necessary at this point. But what you can do is tell him you have no clue when your last period was so then they have no option but to do an ultrasound.

Im sure it depends on if you have a private practitioner or HMO. Sometimes you can request it free of charge, and in some cases you can pay for it. But why does it matter, your due date is not going to change. So if you have to pay then you might as well wait.
