got new windows,the vents seem to be of very poor quality ,it is only a flap covering the air vent,when it is closed the wind still whistles in them,the company involved say they comply with british standards,how can this be so,surely these should be wind proof ,when the wind is strong enough it actually blows the flap open,i am at my wits end with this company telling me sh...

yeah mine are the same, i'm sure you could fork out a couple of extra grand to get completely sealed ones but i think the attitude you have to take is that less air gets in as to when they are open.

not thought about it before but maybe it ensures that you still get at least some circulation to help prevent damp..?

I don't know where you live but the building regulations in Scotland are that the ventilators are always open, this is because as they are installed high on the window, they will let air out as hot air allways rises to the top, so they are put there to let air out, not air in, you may air in depending on the weather and the wind but generally they will do what the are desinged for and that is letting air out.
