Yes they do - my female did the same thing to my male. It takes about two months but they look great again. Some female are very territorial. I have three females in together - I tried placing one with my male but she beat him up (what a sissy!) so I keep them seperated. I have had a single male and single female together - but in a 25 gallon tank - with all the room and rocks and plants to escape, I never had any problems.

I used to have 2 Bettas, both girls. One chewed the other's fins up. They both lived pretty long, 1 and a half years. But the chewed up fins never recovered. It started to become less obvious but it still looked pretty bad, and yes we did try medicine as well. I'd say you should keep them apart with the medicine with the poor chewed up one. But after a while put them back together; what happened with us is after a while they stopped fighting.

Good Luck

males and bettas do not belong in the same enclosure unless they are ready to mate. even when they they have to be monitered and then quickly separated when they are done doing their thing. first thing...separate them! second thing..his fins will evenutally grow back... but unless you study breeding patterns and have experienced a successful breeding...DO NOT MIX THEM! you can put females with females...but any other combo is deadly. oh and also one and a half years for a bettas live is SHORT. they can live up to 8 if you know how to take care of them.

Yes, they will grow back in time, but it will take a while. You really shouldn't use medications on a fish unless you have indications of a disease. You also shouldn't put a male and female betta together unless it's to breed them and then only if you know they are both in spawning condition.

When you bought your fish didn't they tell you not to put two of them together........ My niece used to have one and since I heard that if you put two of them together they wouldn't get along, I took a mirror and placed it where the fish could see it then the fish got all puffy and was trying to fight his mirror image.... I know it was sort of cruel but funny.....
