Actually, this planets name is *not* Earth. It's 'Terra'. 'Earth' is the Medieval English translation of the original Greek.

Don't forget Gaia! The only part of the earth where we can live! And a goddess!
The part of Earth on which we can survive is very, very small.
From about a mile down to a mile up.
Gaia gives life amongst chaos!
It seems that all the big religions have given up on the feminine aspects. Bring back the goddesses and let's have less war! (a god type thing)

they're named after Roman gods, as are most of the planets' moons except Uranus which are Shakespearean characters.
In Roman Mythology, the goddess of the Earth was Tellus- the fertile soil (Greek: Gaia, terra mater - Mother Earth). does that sound better than Earth? You choose.

Because when the planets were named the earth wasn't considered a planet.

Not realizing it was a planet, we neglected to give it a proper celestial name. There is a discrepancy though. The other planets all have Latin names while ours is Saxon or something. We should rightly call it Terra or Tellus.

Because when you look at it the earth is made of rocks and trees and the other planets are magical lights in the sky.

You're right. Also, "The Moon" is hardly original. It must have taken a long time to think that one up.
