Depends on how you mean. In terms of functions, well, no. The penis can be used to ejaculate and to urinate from, as well as for sexual pleasure. In contrast, the clitoris' sole function is sexual peasure.

But in terms of what it actually is, then yes, it basically is a small penis. Penises and clitorises are made up of the same basic tissue; we all start out as girls in the womb and hormones will either continue that initial gential growth into a penis or keep it as a clitoris. The penis and the clitoris have the same number of nerves- those in the clitoris are just packed into a much smaller space (which makes those orgasms so dang intense).

So, no, they aren't the same thing, miniaturized, but you would be correct in saying they are similar organs on different bodies.

Hope that helps.

The clitoris and the penis are anatomically analogous. The head (glans) of the penis is the same as the external portion of the clitoris. The vast majority of the clitoris is internal. The crus of the penis/clitoris lies along the subpubic arch. The corpus spongiosum (squishy part of the penis) lies underneath the labia minora (inner lips) of the vagina, which is why the lips can become puffy when the woman is aroused.

However, even though they are analogous, the clitoris is not JUST a small penis! It's a wonderful little fun happy button. It's the only organ whos sole purpose is pleasure. It is far more sensitive than the male penis, because all of those nerves are concentrated in that little spot (Take a hint, guys, and be GENTLE). Before I knew its anatomical name, I called it my "lucky special magic button." I think that's a good description.

I've read in many instances that that the clitoris is an undeveloped penis (as someone mentioned above, a male childs penis develops from the same position as the female childs clitoris.).

However, the first thing that comes to mind when someone reads a question like this is "are you implying that women are somehow stunted by this lack of having ". This is however an argument of symantics. The clitoris is no more an under developed penis than a penis is an overdeveloped clitoris.

In both situations, its a bundle of nerves with a purpose rooted in sexual reproduction, beyond that, one argues the quality of its function, which is not the topic at hand.

EDIT: Thats exactly what I just said Baba Yaga. And by the way, are you even qualified to comment on what a penis is or is not, you seem to be one of those "intelligent women" us men have no interest in. Have you ever seen a member of the opposite sex naked in a sexual setting before? Ah, but such are questions for a completely different section.

That's not depressing you are. For one your looking it up at wikipedia when most of the facts are wrong, research more on better sites. Two why are you looking this up? Three it's a clitoris if we had a penis it would be called a penis. And four grow up and get over it.

The parts of the clitoris and penis are similar, just arranged differently. But they don't function in the same way. It started as the same thing, but they have very different purposes, so they're not the same.

Technically, a penis is just a large clitoris. They're made of the same tissues and they both swell when a person is aroused ... A man's just develops differently because of his Y chromosome ...

No, but when a fetus is forming in the womb, that same "part" will either become a penis or a clitoris depending on the sex of the baby.

Actually, if you research the formation of fetal development, you may find that the penis is just an overgrown clitoris. Boys' "junk" has just fallen out, unlike girls, we keep ours well hidden.
