I only have two fan plugins on my Motherboard which are chasis fan and CPU fan. I think I could buy a splitter for the Chasis fan and connect my new fan there. Anythoughts?

Can I buy a spitter? What is the splitter called?

The cable from the fan is a small 3 pin female. Can anyone tell me the name of a cable that i can run that into a 4 pin hardrive power cable?

You've got the right idea. Just don't hook it to your CPU fan.

You can piggy back off the power to your drives or get a splitter and connect to an available fan power connection.

It's a cheap priced item. Maybe a friend has a spare.

You could use a Y or inline splitter or spare power connection coming out of your power supply.

Just be sure the air flows front to back through the case and hopefully over your motherboard.

If it's a 2 wire fan, you could cut the connector off the 80mm fan then solder a good tail on each wire. Then connect the two tails into an extra power connector along with electrical tape. Its crude but it works.

As long as the fan doesnt need to be sensored - heat guage and rpm monitor, this should work out for you.

After you mentioned cpu fan, I instantly guessed you were using the motherboard fan header (3 or 4 pins). I would strongly advise you to leave those alone. They can burn up if you're drawing too much power. Opt for MOLEX plugs, same ones you use for harddrive and optical drive. You should get an adapter for the plug with the fan.

Hi. Most electronics/computer places have "Y" power adapters. The just plug in to a drive and it will leave an open power slot. The fans do not draw too much current. You can also check for unused power lines from the PSU.
