Some people put playing politics ahead of the safety of the world. By now everyone should realize this is a real threat (more than a threat, considering how much has already been done) and partisan differences need to be put aside.

I don't think that there are any thinking Democrats who dispute that Radical Islam is a grave threat to the US...or any part of the free world, for that matter. End point.

New point...the war in Iraq has NOTHING to do with Radical Islam. It is a civil war in a country other than our own. And while we are embroiled in it, Radical Islam gets stronger and stronger. Why don't conservatives get THAT?

Just because your president falsely made the connection - and even after it was proven to be false...doesn't mean you HAVE to believe it! It won't make you a bad person, or unpatriotic. It will make you a thinking person...one who has researched the facts and listened to all sources...rather than blindly following the words of one man. Bush is not GOD...he is not all powerful, and he is certainly not always right! THAT is what democrats KNOW...and will happily accept your label as unpatriotic if thats what has to happen.

What is the absolute threat? Is terrorism going to bring this nation down? Only if we allow it to. See, terrorist don't defeat nations, they let the people of nations do it for them.

How you might ask?

By getting people to give up their principles. By taking away the rights of many. By disrupting our way of living.

It's done by acts of extreme violence that must be punished. However, terrorists have little capability to wage a real war.

So why do we fight this only like a war? When will we go after the ideology that proclaims this country an enemy? Maybe when we realize that you can't kill an idea with a bullet.

I read the responses to this question, and it made me ill. Part of "getting it" (libs) is the understanding that there is already a heart and mind campaign in the Middle East. Who do you think is building the roads, schools, and aiding the people? Who do you think runs security? Do you think that the civilians are more afraid of - our military or the fact that they can't go to a market without being bombed?
Wake up. By the way.... The U.S.A. has a ton of merchandise stamped "made in China" but has that won the trust of Americans? Geez. Why are lib's so contradictory?

I'm getting tired of these, we don't deny it or not "get it" we just think it's being managed by IDIOTS, we're the only ones who understand that a large military assault isn't feasible against a widespread ill defined enemy, I think there's a helluva lot smarter way to fight this thing but the current administration is a bunch of clueless wonders, the money we've spent in Iraq could have increased our intelligence gathering ability 4 fold, more training for elite special forces for surgical strikes against identified targets, hearts and minds campaigns including but not limited to medical aid, infrastructure construction aid, educational aid, humanitarian aid, if everything you touch that benefits you is stamped U.S.A. eventually you're going to change your perception, support for human rights including sanctioning countries that have poor human rights records like Saudi Arabia, our supposed friend, Pakistan, again a "Supposed"ally, of course this is just a the basic concept, there are many other things in line with this that would reduce terrorism, the biggest way isn't killing them, they're like rochs and we're actually helping them recruit with our current actions, they would be able to recruit far far fewer members if we did this smarter

to the poster below: Honey the stuff stamped made in china is garbage so that's what Americans think of it, what a stupid analogy, and we're building roads to replave the ones we blew up you think that's a hearts and minds campaign? Just another clueless neocon spouting instead of thinking

I'm sorry you live your life in complete fear and run to daddy government to save you. Security is an illusion. You live and deal with life as it comes. You are what the dictionary defines as a "coward". If these events really bothered you to the point of having to take a stand and you just have to feel something strong about something then you and your family take up arms, and go to Iraq to fight the terrorists. Look into the events that led to these catastrophies. I see you speak out of complete and utter fear which stems from complete and utter ignorance.

Who said terror isn't a threat? I certainly never did.

The problem with terror, is if you notice most of these incidents have occurred in relationship to a different nation-state within the region. Terrorism cannot be attributed to a sole nation-state such as Afghanistan and Iraq, but rather should be attributed to a group of extremists. We are approaching the war on terror like the cold war, but this is a very different group of enemies and should be treated as such. Outspending and theories of MAD aren't going to help us here. Real thinking will work.

People also don't have a problem with the war on terror it is the manipulation of the American people and its politics by its highest elected officials that has people concerned.

Dems don't get it because they don't care about the US in the long run. Political gain is more important to them than the long term stability of the US. They figure that the best and the brightest will keep the US from being completely over run.
Dems are also terrible historians because they are always trying to rewrite history. You can learn allot from history when you read it, not revise it for political gain.

I don't think Dems have a problem defending ourselves against radical Islamists.

We didn't have a problem going into Afghanistan.

What we DO have a problem with is invading Iraq, lying to the world as the reasons why we invaded, then completely mismanaging the war, killing over 3200 soldiers in the process.

Hopefully you 'get it' now.

It was reagan who called off the attack against Hesbollah after the embassy bombing. NOT THE DEMOCRATS. Read a book, why not?

PS: If republicans are so concerned about terrorists, why do they have our army tied up in Iraq?
