You probably never will get DSL in your area, unless the phone company plans to extend central office service to your area. And that _might_ happen if there's a new massive subdivision sprouting up in the middle of a former cornfield.

The future for the phone company is in fiber to the home, if they get around to the underserved areas.

I feel your pain: I also live in a rural residential area that's too far from our town's central office and there's no plans to extend DSL service to my subdivision. However, Verizon laid fiber in our town, and we're waiting for the cable commission to approve TV service to Verizon so that they will offer everything else (broadband, VoIP).

Meanwhile, that leaves you with cable modem or satellite IP. Good luck.

I live in an area of Reno, NV that doesnt have DSL either or cable, I was able to get Clearwire, I have the 1.5 speed and honestly I can't tell the difference between it and DSL, and I dont have to have a phone line which is the best part cause I use my cell all the time. Depending where you live you might be able to get them. Go to clearwire.com and see if its in your area.

Good luck!

It depends if you live in the middle of no where, or in a town. I live in a very rural area, and the only places you can get DSL are in town. You may, however, be able to get a cable connection.
