Pick up a copy of Time Out Chicago magazine. It has everything that's going on in the city during the week. They also have a website. Also check out the Metromix website. it's a pretty good source as well.
as far as rentals, check The Chicago Reader, a free weekly paper. They have a pretty good listing of apartments
And minimum wage here is the same as the rest of the country, about $7 an hour or so.

well, don't go to the westside or southside....bad neighborhoods. Stay mostly in what we call the Northside, Wrigleyville (boystown), Bucktown is O.K., Gold Coast, Lincoln Park....those the names you want to recognize when looking for housing. Hanging out....stay around Rush St, Clark, and Lincoln (Lincoln Park) those are the safe/cool bars/clubs to hang out at. If you want touristy...then go to Division.

go to the shedd aquarium, the field museum, the science and industry museum,(they have body works there) and the art museum and the sears tower
oh and go see the CHICAGO BULLS play!!!!
