They would have contacted you already. If you filed a tax income return yoou should be fine because they would take the money out of the return rather than bother you.

TRUST ME ON THIS ONE if you owed any back taxes from 2004 you would have heard from the irs by now,by way of letter or garnihment of your wages. breath easy !!!

Contact the IRS and CA state tax prepare's office. I'm sure they can also guyide you better, in giving the right numbers.
