You could have SpyWare.
You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
These are cleanup tools. Ad-aware cleans files, and SpyBot cleans the registry.
Close other internet applications also.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Mine was very slow yesterday...I have the 8meg line as well and it was taking well over 10 minutes to load up one page... then says it cannot be displayed!
I did a spyware check and nothing came up, ttried to do the 'fix' thingy that dropped down onto the screen from BT but it would not load properly, had no access to the internet so just saved, shut down and left it for a while; when I loaded it back up it was working fine! This has happened a few times with me and I am glad to see I am not the only one experiencing this!

can depend who your with? broadband like dial up is subject to usage loss, eg: the isp has enough bandwith for 100,000 users, if most of these users go online then the bandwith will get narrower, your downloads should not go below 256kbps if it does the isp has foobar'd and done some seriousley wrong calculations.
On the other hand your isp may be limiting your connection speed due to maintence, most isp's have a maintenence schedule you can acess on there website.
make sure theres nothing in the background using your bandwith or even if your on a unsecured wireless network your neighbours could be leeching your bandwith.
I would go with option 2 than the isp is doing maintenence on the servers.
Hope this helps a little

I have the same problem all the time and then you have to spend hours on the phone to their call centre in India or somewhere, they get you to do all the work taking the tops of the plug sockets and still you don't get it fixed. They never ever come back to you and just ignore it ALL THE RUDDY TIME.
So BT if you ever do get off your backside perhaps people might trust you more -as it is BT Broadband is a complete farce of the highest degree - Snail mail is faster!

please do not mention BT. I went with them a month ago, 30 phone calls, 25 emails later still not resolved. Keep telling me that slow speed is due to my pc, my internal wiring etc. Which is bull. They said I am on a 1mb tariff even though I signed upto option 3 upto 8mb and no such tariff exist. Sorry BT is slow and sxxxx all the time.

BT broadband will be slower as a lot of cable custumers are swapping over to BT so it will take them time to catch up and upgrade there systems if you noticed its slower at certain times of day
