It's a fictional love story mixed in with real historical events. The love story was just used to add some more drama to the movie (as if it didn't have enough drama to begin with). Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie, but the romance is all fiction.

Rose and Jack were both fictional characters. They were not on the Titanic in real life.

There was a Jack Dawson on the Titanic, apparently but James Cameron (director of Titanic) denies that he knew about the guy. In other words, the movie character is not based on the "real" Jack Dawson.

It was a story, fiction. How can you get evidence for this? They did not exist. Check the manifests of the Titanic. The 'history' in the film was Hollywood style, i.e. very little truth in it. The people were made up, more to the point, can anyone prove they existed?

it's about a couple people on a boat with like 2000 people on it. they have movies about pearl harbor and 9/11 with fictional characters too. i think its kind of better that way sometimes.

i just had a big fight about that yesterday with my mom. she says it's not true because they wanted people to watch it and thought that that's what people would want to see. We think only the part about the boat sinking is real.
