And yet by the end of it, it was widely hated and viewed as one of the greatest threats to peace in the world.

Would conservatives have the same dismissive attitude towards global opinion they do now?

Well of course they would, that's the ONLY attitude they've EVER had, especially when it comes to the opinions of the brown peoples of the world.....most conservatives can't read above a 3rd grade level and secretly believe we should still burn witches and that toads cause warts. These people can barely breathe and walk upright at the same time, what makes you think for a minute that they are capable of figuring out things like the impact of a negative global opinion on our economy or how to tie their shoes?

Dude, quit picking on retarded people!

In my conversations with different folks from Europe, Clinton was well respected by other countries. In fact, the whole impeachment scandal was a huge turning point...not that he was being impeached, but the fact that the country was up in arms about his 'sexual' activity in the Oval Office. (I KNOW he wasn't impeached for the sexual act...and that it was about perjury.) Europe, in particular, has long believed that Americans have a repressed mindset, and this was just proof - handed to them on a silver platter. THAT turned the US into an international laughing stock.

But I digress... To your point, I think that it is an American mindset to be dismissive toward global opinion. Dems and Reps alike. There is no politics to this brand of patriotism. I have seen arguments from both sides stating that the USA is the greatest nation in the world, and that they could care less what the rest of the world thought of them. And further, they believe that the USA is the only superpower...and always will be. How's that for dismissive. Or naive, perhaps...

Personally, I don't think that most conservatives are dismissive of the global opinion re: The United States. I just think that they're aware that life isn't a high school popularity contest and that, sometimes, you have to take the difficult, unpopular position.

How long would it take for people to become agitated at a cop standing on the corner Of their street everyday . And know if you said something you would be shot .
We have people in uniform all over the world to protect our foreign investments .
Every base is located withing 20 miles of a multi million dollar facility involved in mining ,chemical production ,or refineries of food or oils and gas .
Who actually beliefs we have troops in Chile just for the hell of it . We have a billion dollar cooper plant near by . And this is repeated around the globe .

No, liberals would. Everybody tends to dismiss negative opinions as being unimportant, and stress positive opinions as being more important. In politics, this attitude is exaggerated, because politics is about image to a considerable extent.

Much division is traced to 2000 election disaster, can't appoint the presidency in democracy and expect people to unite.

What matters is that we are defending ourselves, and not sitting back and letting attacks happen.

When I was in school, the "loose woman" of the class was very "popular," but only because she allowed herself to be used. She was not respected. She was not protecting herself.

See the difference?

You know, the great thing about being America -- the world's number one superpower, is that you can be dismissive of global opinion.

God bless America!

We all know the answer. If a democrat does something, good or bad, then it is bad. If a republican does something, good or bad, then it is good.

They would have blamed clinton for destorying the united state's reputation. However, since bush did it, no big deal.
