The GPS chip in a phone has nothing to do with 911 getting your location as 911 centers cannot afford a orbiting satellite.

It will be routed to the nearest 911 center based on your location by a method of tower triangulation.

911 calls are usually routed to the nearest tower to where you are located -- this is why every cell phone is fitted with GPS capabilities -- now if you decided to keep that 4 yr old phone I would upgrade cause it probably doesn't have it! lol
