roughly about $1000 before insurance coverage. We ended up paying 10% of that cost. It is well worth the money!

Epidural steroid injection costs vary by who is doing them, the facility in which they are done, and how much your insurance covers. If you don't have insurance, negotiate a discounted rate up front. It usually takes a series of at least 3 injections to get meaningful relief. It is common for the pain to be WORSE for a day or two, and then get better. If the injections work, it may eliminate the need for surgery, or delay it for a while. Epidural steroids work by reducing inflammation of the nerves. If you have a mechanical problem, like compression from a herniated disc or narrowing of the holes where the nerves exit the spine, it might not do much for you. If the inflammation related to those problems is what is causing the pain, it can help a lot. It's worth trying, because they do work well in some patients, and are a heck of a lot easier than back surgery.

What you are charged depends on the location of the country in which you live, the amount of time the doctor spends with you and how long the epidural runs.
Some anesthesiologists charge a fixed charge per epidural, but most bill based on the standard anesthesia billing of base units plus time units times unit value. Yeah, it's complicated.
What your insurance pays is a totally different story. That is dependent upon your contract with your insurance company, whether you have met your deductible, and whether or not the doctor is participating with your insurance.

I believe mine was $2,500 total for the doctor, the equipment, and the medication. The only reason I would not recommend it (and believe me, it helps) is if you plan to nurse. I did nurse after an epidural, and every muscle in my body was relaxed, including my nipples, making it hard until the medication wore off. But, if you've been through it this many times, why go for it now? It really makes you feel better though, I will say that! Good luck, and best wishes for a healthy baby and mom!

Hi...I guess it varies from state to state. I'm in Hawaii, and just had my baby in February. The epidural cost was about $1000...of course, we have medical insurance, so we only had to pay our 10% copay of $100.
And you know what--the epidural wore off, so when I had my baby; I could feel EVERYTHING!
