Actually it depends on the event at least thats what i think. There are many great swimmers in different events, when it comes to long distant swimming theres no one greater than grant hackett, when its fly i think its between Ian Crocker and Michael Phelps when its IM well thats between Mr. Phelps again and the up and coming Ryan Lochte. and Backstoke no one can stroke like Aaron Peirsol every meet they he is in he sheds seconds off his performance. When it comes to the females its between Amanda Beard and Natalie Coughlin but the up and coming Katie Hoff can definately give then competition, and we cant forget about Katlin Sandeno either. but then there are the great people that have retired from swimming also that we cant forget about either....

Isnt Freestyle the fastest stroke? So therfore the two fastest are a South African guy in the 50m free and an Italian bloke in the100m free with some yanks breathing down their necks and the Hoogen Dood!!!!. Sorry cant remember all their names!!

well...i dont think any swimmer is the best in everything! you need to know what event your talking bout..whether its 100 fly, 50 free, 50 free or w/e! I know that Michael Phelps/Amanda Beards are very good, olympic swimmers in some events.
