I have (had) a male betta fish and his was in a big bowl but while i was cleaning it i put him in a little cup and he jumped out. i put him back in the bowl he was in because i was cleaning the other fishes bowl at the time. When i woke up this morning he was dead. What made him jump out of the cup he was in then die?

I doubt the jumping out was what killed them. bettas are known to be jumpers and live through being out of a bowl as long as they stay moist. I'd lean more towards something wrong with te water. did you use a conditioner for the water? tap water can be harmful if a conditioner is not used. did you wash the bowl with soap? soap leave a residue that harm fish, even after it's been rinsed well. did you make sure the temps in the old water and the new water were the same?

bowls make poor homes for any fish, even bettas. bettas are tropical fish and should be in temps of about 78°F to 80°F. this means they should have a heater. 2.5 gallons is the smallest you can go and still be able to heat it, so a 2.5 gallon bowl with a heater can be okay,as long as you're doing a full water change at least once a week, but nothing beats a filtered heated tank, which allows good bacteria to grow.

The consequence of hitting the floor might have led to inner injuries, basically because it would for you falling one in all those distance! in effortless terms time will tell to whether the fish recovers. verify the tank is heat (heated) with immaculate water high quality - Bettas in effortless terms leap out of tanks whilst they're feeling trapped and are in seek of a bigger physique of water.

A cup is way too small for any fish.
