....for late night clubbing. England footballers did exactly the same thing. Do they get dropped? No - cus they are spoiled and we cannot upset the poor little dears, now can we?
Is it time pro footballers faced up to their responsibilities as icons for kids; acted a bit more professional; and stopped acting like spoilt brats......getting drunk, driving expensive cars recklessly, and acting like something other than a person who kicks a football for a living......

well he should have been disciplined . people who represent this country at anything should remember that its not just another jolly and that certain standards are expected not only that but young people look up to them. the only problem with dropping them is that you might them compromise what could be a winning team. re footballers i think there should be a wages cap

Freddy Flintoffand other England players were caught because the press today are always ready to pounce on anything that makes a good story and there were some sickening pictures in today's Daily Mirror of several of the England squad behaving like drunken louts out there in the West indies.

Likewise if footballers do what he did they too get named in the media, and pictures of them appear. But the problem is England need Flintoff as he is their best player. Likewise top British footballers are vital to their clubs and, if Internationals, to their country otherwise teams get beaten. That is why players like Rooney will not be dropped when they behave similarly irresponsibly. Remember the hype there was at the last World Cup when Rooney was suddenly available, after being off injured. And what happened, in his first match back in the team he got sent off!

I agree. Except that Flintoff wasn't captain to begin with, he was vice-captain. Micheal Vaughan is England's captain at the WC.

And is being dropped for one solitary game, that Engalnd were never likely to lose anyway, really a heavy punishment?

Actually he lost the vice-captaincy. Cricketers are traditionally more disciplined than footballers, though there are always exceptions. Cough Phil Tuffnell Cough!
