Hang it outside for that great scent. Try it. Nothing like it. Be sure to use the final rinse softner.

I refuse to spend what tide costs! I bought the Gain Mango Tango liquid fabric softener, and regardless of what soap, color bleach, or dryer sheets I use...my clothes smell like the Gain stuff. Even after being in the dresser for a week! I'll never go back to Snuggle or Downy.

2 things you can do, either or both.

Add a half-cup of baking soda to each wash load.

Substitute the liquid fabric softener with plain old cheap white vinegar. You can put it in the ball if you want, keep it separate from the baking soda so it doesn't foam up...after the big volcano, it is chemically reduced to water. So you want them to be activated separately.

Both of these are great in the laundry. They are deodorizers for the "aaahhhh" factor. Baking soda softens water to boost detergent. Vinegar has the added benefit of removing residues that pile on after you use a lot of fabric softener, but it also a fabric softener in itself.

You can keep using the detergent and dryer sheets that smell the way you like.

The pickle smell gives way to a sweet smell after drying.

Also check that your dryer isn't too hot...which causes your clothes to smell a little burnt.

I don't know about if you are drying too long, but I use Gain- touch of softness and I feel in love, because a couple days later I could still smell it. Also I notice while washing I could smell the scent around the house.

The only way to get them to smell great is to hang them on the line. You conserve energy and save money at the same time. I only use the dryer if it is raining. The outdoor smell seems to linger a lot longer than the perfumed smells of the other stuff.

Why use Tide? It's the most heavily advertised, one of the most expensive and while it might clean your clothes well ,so do other detergents and they're not as harsh.

To keep my clothes smelling good I use baking soda in the wash and and a fabric softener in the drier. If this isn't working you may be overdrying your clothes

Gain has a great sent and leaves your laundry smelling wonderful. It is a bit more expensive than the other brands, but does a great job. Take care.

i understand you stated you're no longer asking for manufacturers, yet once you employ Downy common Pleasures fabric Softener, your clothing will scent astonishing. I wash my sheets and use the lavender scented softener and that i purely love napping in the sheets and smelling the lavender fragrance.

I read another person said to use suavatel. I just started using it and LOVE it. It's half the price and my towels are soft and smell wonderful.
