But KB, can just about remember when the Birmingham 6 were sentenced, and the press going all out to tell us they were lucky it wasn't 1964, when they would have got the rope

Yes Roger. Both sides can 'appeal'.

Sally Clarke was found ,completely innocent,
of the death of her two children

I cannot even imagine the trauma ,she suffered ,
with not only, the death of her own children,
but then to be imprisoned for "The alleged crime"

, the above traumas ,must have contributed element to her early death.

This makes me more certain ,
that the death penalty,
should never be used in this country ,

OUR our legal system NOT infallible .

There have been ,far too many,
miscarriages of Justice in recent years .

As she was convicted on the say so of a now discredited so called expert I would think that the expert could be hauled into court to face a murder charge. Such a move would have these interfering busy bodies with an over inflated ego put into their place. The conviction was on an opinion only and that is hardly fact, nodoubt the judge would have looked at the facts and decided to jail rather than hang, it was not manditory even when we had the death penalty and the facts had to be pretty certain.

Violation King is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Sally Clarke was found guilty of murdering her two children, by a jury, who thought her guilty "beyond all reasonable doubt". DNA evidence doesn't come into it, nor is DNA evidence some perfect proof of guilt. At the time of her conviction she was one of the "evil child killers" that half of you lot want to hang.

Had she been hanged, it would have been difficult to put anything right once her conviction was found to be unsafe.

Or are you just hoping that the mistakes can be swept under the carpet?

I agree that this is the most powerful reason for abolition of the death penalty, and until government can guarantee that an innocent will never be hanged, long may the ban continue.

BTW people are hanged, only game is hung

The British justice system is as guilty of Sally Clarke's death as if they had hanged her.

No sane or reasonable person supports the death penalty. Unfortunately, some Daily Mail readers still do.

a scientist's facts were proven to be not as accurate as they should have been . Does that mean that sally Clarke and the other women freed were Innocent ?. I'm not so sure and i feel that they were freed on a technicality. had they been male and accused of being pedophiles or rapists they would have still been rotting in jail wating for a hearing.

Rhetorical or what.

Britain does not have the Death Sentence.

Britain does have an appeals court.

she would not have been hung even if the dp were still in force simply because there was no dna evidence to prove her guilt there was always a doubt about her case.the likes of ian huntley and the bastxxd that raped and murdered his 2 year old niece should be hung without a doubt.i would be in a long q to pull the lever.

Be a bit late to do anything.

That's why the death penalty should not be used-you can never be 100% sure a person is guilty.

With obvious outrage. But thats one of the reasons we dont have hanging, in fear of hanging an innocent person as has happened in the past. Remember Timothy Evans for example.
