I'm so nervous with this pregnancy, but thank God i feel fine and i have a lot of support, but i'm wondering what does the doctor tell you after you go for your first visit and they take blood work and you return to get the results, what are they looking for? :)

For the most part they just tell you everything looks good! They are just doing prelimanary work, checking blood count, and typing your blood. Plus they usually do an HIV test. Try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy (easier said than done, I know) don't worry though, the fun stuff is coming!!!

well, with me they only checked the hcg level to confirm i am pregnant, they didnt tell me anything else lol. But im sure if something was wrong they would let you know. Later on at my second ultrasound they told me that I was rh negative and will need to have 2 injections at different times in the pregnancy, so I guess they did do other checks with the blood but didnt tell me til then. They also check to see what immunisations you have had etc, wether you have any diseases, things like that. Next blood test in 2 weeks they are checking me for antibodies to get the injection, and other routine tests (im currently 25 1/2 weeks) i think theres about 3 or 4 blood tests all up, so hope you dont hate needles! lol

It was with my batch of blood work that they discovered I was very low in iron and put me on iron pills. Basically, they're checking to make sure that all the levels of everything you need are ok. If you had to do a glucose tolerance test, they check for your sugar levels to make sure you're not diabetic. I believe I also had an HIV test done as well with my preliminary blood work. Good luck and don't worry about anything. If anything is lacking, no matter how minor, they'll inform you!

They test the hormones in your blood, HCG, and can tell how far along you are .
They check for STDs, too.

Good luck!!
