I slathered on Palmer's oil in the evenings...all over. During the day, I used Palmer's lotion, and they also have a stretch mark cream. You can get this at Walmart or a grocery store. I have not one stretch mark on my entire body. Some of it's genetics, and some of it, regardless of what I read, HAS to be how you treat your skin. Drink plenty of water, too, to keep your skin hydrated. That's another thing I did. Good luck!!
P.S. My Mom and sister both have stretch marks

My best advice to you is to drink lots and lots and lots of water. Part of the reason you get stretch marks is because your skin isn't hydrated enough, a direct effect of not drinking enough water.

Rapid weight gain is another factor, so if you are allowed to, exercise and eat right to control how fast you gain weight.

You can try creams with vitamin E, shea butter, collagen, etc. but none have been scientifically proven to prevent stretch marks. However there are many creams on the market that help to diminish the appearance of stretch marks once you give birth.

Lastly, there's genetics. If stretch marks run in your family, there's a pretty good chance you'll get them too. Honestly, while they're red they look pretty ugly but after a while they fade and unless you're looking closely, you can't really see them.

Ok so I'm on my second pregnancy and I have not a single strecthmark. They say that stretchmarks have to do with rapid weight gain and blah blah blah. Anyway, not neccessarily true. I think that stretch marks are because of scratching. DON'T SCRATCH!!! I hardly use any lotions at all but when I do I use Palmer Cocoa Butter. But literally I only use it about once a week if even that. It has a lot to do with scratching because scratching can tear the skin and break it up. Just make sure you don't scratch and you should be fine. Oh and I've gained weight really fast and not a SINGLE mark.

I used the Royal Almond body oil and the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks. It helped a little. When I went to classes on how to prepare for a baby, I heard from other mommies to be that the Jafra really helped avoid the stretch marks.

Well they have different creams out now that you can help reduce and prevent stretch marks, such as Palmers cocoa butter cream. They also have a stretch mark cream in the infant and baby isles at k-mart and walmart. You may also want to ask your Pharmacist while you are in there if there are any other over the counter creams or rememdies that you can use. Congratulations and good luck!

Since you have gotten pretty much all the advice on creams, lotions etc (don't think I saw Udder cream yet), here are some words of hope. I got stretch marks on hips and breasts, but eventually they went away on their own. They came on in my early 20's and I accepted it. Then when I was 30 something, I was stunned one day to see that they were no more, LOL. But a decade is a long time to wait to see that go away!

I used Palmer's stretch mark cream when I was pregnant with my second baby. I started using it at about three months until I gave birth..I still got a few though, so I won`t tell you you won`t get any but I believe it does help alot!! I used regular cocoa butter lotion when I was pregnant with my first and it didn't work as well..But if you do get them they do fade over time and they are well worth it once you hold your little baby in your arms!! Congrats and Good Luck!!

Cocoa butter and vitamin E!!! I wish I had known about these creams in advance or else my 1st pregnancy wouldn't have ended up w/ such horrible stretch marks! (Not to mention the constant itching from stretching! My 2nd pregnancy, I used the cheapy cocoa butter stuff from the drug store and I applied it right after the shower. It made my skin feel better and the stretch marks didn't get that bad.

It's natural to have stretch marks. I suggest asking a doctor about the best creams an lotions! They always work!

You are right, they are inherited. However, I have read that you can help prevent them to a certain extent by maintaining a healthy weight, drinking enough water to keep your body hydrated and using a good moisturizer - preferably one with vitamin E, which is good for your skin. I never got them. I never asked my mom if she had them, but I did do all that I mentioned above. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy - it goes by so fast.
