I think the O.J. trial was sensationalized because (a) O.J. was a prominent celebrity, (b) The problems with the chain of evidence, (c) The indications that the detectives and police chief running the investigation had a racist agenda, and (d) The high-power legal counsel O.J. employed to defend him. I don't think the race issue was the #1 issue the media latched onto in that case. It was a three-ring circus from the day they televised O.J. in a Bronco flying down Highway 101 and it just snowballed from there.

I watched the whole trial, I was on disability the entire time.

Race was not a factor for anyone other then the jury. It was not an issue in the trial.

It was sensationalized because of who he had been previously. He was not just a celebrity, but one held up as an example to other youths. I don't think most people thought about his race one way or the other.

O.J. Simpson was sensationalized and freed because of being a great American football player who achieved stardom at the collegiate and professional levels and later worked as an actor, spokesperson and broadcaster.
Race had nothing to do with it. The police simply did shoddy work and couldn't prove he killed his wife.

I do feel that it was sensationalized because of race to a certain extent, but mostly because of who he is. Johnnie Cochran did the job he was supposed to do.....but I don't believe the police work was substandard. O.J. was guilty. There is NO WAY that a District Attorney would continue in the high profile case if they didn't believe without a shadow of a doubt that OJ was guilty. DNA evidence don't lie. He's a murderer.

Don't forget that O.J. was already a celebrity. I think that had a lot to do with the interest. And then that stupid slow police chase. Sheesh! Race did play a part, but I think less than celebrity status.

I think it was sensationalized because of WHO he was, rather than race. That was the shocker around here.
