I don't have a Tacoma but I had a T-100 and I have a 2001 Tundra that I bought new, Both of these trucks were used to deliver Mail I put the equivalent of 380,000 miles on the T-100 and then I bought the Tundra and I put the equivalent 500,000 miles on it. These are not real mills but are taken from a clock in either case both vehicles were operated for under $1000 for a 4 year period of time each, before them I drove Fords and my cost of keeping them on the road was between $12,000 and $18,000 for a like amount of time only not going as far, more like 340,000 for the four year time frame. It is yours and your choice but if I was you I would keep it just the way it is. I drove 24 new Fords before I bought my first Toyota and now I wouldn't let you park one in my drive way.
Edit note; I wish that Fords were near as good but I am sorry they just aren't, I counted on my truck to earn a living

some nice 22" rims that match the style of the car,a nice
running Eldebrock 309 engine that is said to fit 99-03 TaCoZ that you can get for about 2250 bucks.you can get some
Ground Control suspension for about 450 bucks,an AEM intake system,Borla Performance Exhaust which Is the same as FLOWMASTER but cheaper.you can upgrade to some Brembo brakes along with it's own paint kit,for about 330 dollars.let's see,a American Clutch Mangement clutch and gear kit available in 5 speed or automatic for 219 dollars.what else,a computer, not one that you use to get on the internet, but it helps with better performance and when you feel like driving no handed, the car doesn't pull off to the left or right.and sway bars.

the best mod you can make is to trade it in on a FORD!
No I'm just kidding. Not too many mods you can make outside of an exhaust upgrade, and intake upgrade. Stay away from headers. Everyone I know who has done that type of upgrade has regretted it upon inspection or just from noise.
Do the simple stuff, like K&N filter, performance spark plugs and ignition systems, performance brake pads and rotors.
As a matter of fact, consider interior and audio upgrades as opposed to mechanical upgrades. The Taco is a pretty good truck as-is.
