Hi,

I bought a couple of songs from ITunes and I can't seem to get them to play on my creative MP3 Player - will they only run on apple products? Also, what does the little padlock sign on the file icon mean?

Thanks

Songs purchased from iTunes come in a protected format that will only play on iTunes/iPods and can only be installed on five devices (computers, iPods, and soon iPhones as well).

However, they do allow you to make legal MP3 copies of all your music without having to waste CD-Rs. Pull down the Edit menu, select Preferences, click the Advanced tab, then the Importing tab, and change the "Import Using" selection to MP3 (remember what the setting was because you'll want to go back through and reset it after finishing this process). Now, go to your Music Library (or any playlist), highlight whatever songs you want to copy to MP3 format, pull down the Advanced menu, and click "Convert Selection to MP3" (this selection will change to reflect whatever format you've designated as the default Importing format in the previous step). It's that easy.

And the little padlock probably means that it's a DRM-protected file. I can't say for certain, because I have never purchased any music from the iTunes store, but it seems logical.

From what i know, I can tell you that Itunes is only for Ipods. And I think that you cannot use the songs you buy from Itunes on anything other than an Ipod. So you'll be better off buying songs from somewhere else other than Itunes if you don't have an Ipod. And I'm not sure were that padlock sign is but it could mean that you have hold on. Hope this helps.

Itunes are protected files that can only be unlocked and played on Ipod products.

You can burn a cd, then rip the cd to mp3 using a program called "cdex", which will in effect convert your itunes to unprotected mp3's which will work on any player.

iTunes is only for iPods.

Use Bearshare or Urge instead, or better yet, sell your Creative and get a Zune!
