The KKK has rituals, beliefs, and a cohesive community that pretty much fits the definition.

Actually no. A cult is defined as being religious and/or being bound together by a charismatic leader. This doesn't define the Ku Klux Klan.

The Klan is defined as a secret organisation which was founded to suppress the newly freed blacks and carpet baggers. Even today although the Klan has changed somewhat it doesn't fit the definition of a cult. The only thing they have in common is that both the Klan and cults are considered unconventional, extreme and outside of conventional society.
