My best pal who is Chinese has been dating this gorgeous brunette Jewish girl for almost a year... They have A LOT in common, especially in family values, careers and politics. Both value education, and are highly successful and ambitious. I get the feeling that East Asian values are very similar to the Jewish, both these peoples rise very quickly in US society.

My friend is crazy about her and is thinking of proposing her this or next month. But I have heard that Jewish girls date non-Jewish but marry Jewish. Is this true? Could the Jewish girl just be leading my friend on? Their relationship is both interfaith and interracial, is that potentially too much to overcome?

The answer is that they CAN.

But they MAY NOT.

Unless, of course, the East Asian guy is Jewish or wants to convert to the Jewish religion.

Then she can and she may.

More than half of the people who define themselves as Jewish are currently marrying those who are not. Major differences in culture, values and upbringing are stresses for a successfuly longterm relationship. But, there are many happy Chinese-Jewish couples. So the issue for your friend and his girl is what place their backgrounds play in their lives now and for the next 50 years. I'd rather have my daughter marry a rightious gentile than a jerk of my own faith.

From a religious persepective, in Orthodox and Traditional practise, a Jewish female's offspring are considered Jewish, and responsible to observe the 613 old testament commandments.

So it gets complicated.... and the issues are more complex than which restaurant to go to after the movie.

Well. Really, I cannot have an answer to such a question. Being Jewish and what it means is very different for different Jewish people. I don't know the girl, but her being Jewish doesn't necessarily mean she's leading him on. She might be in a ilemma within herself if it's important for her and/or her family to marry Jews.
They will have to discuss it.

Good luck to your friend!

of course Jewish women can marry non-Jews. And no, interfaith and interracial isn't too lots to beat. If her mum and dad are worried approximately their childrens being Jewish, Judaism is a matrilinealy inherited faith besides.

Your friend should ask these questions to his girlfriend. The idea that his friend should be asking strangers (who don't even know the couple) via the internet is a bit odd, to say the least.
