My best fixes for migraines - take your hair down - no ponytail, no hairclip. Take the pressure off your scalp. Have a cup of coffee (a little caffeine won't hurt your 5 month old, but may keep her up - so try to have it right after she nurses), then try laying down so that your neck muscles are relaxed - like with your neck on the arm of the couch.
If that doesnt work, try seeing a chiropracter. I wasn't a believer in them, but every time I get an "adjustment" when I have a migraine, its gone in ten minutes! So now I am a believer. Now that I go for regular check ups, I rarely get even a headache.

When you are breastfeeding, the best pain relievers for mild headache, general pain, or period pain are paracetamol or paracetamol/codeine combination. If anti-inflammatory agents are needed for stronger pain, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac or analgesic creams, gels and sprays for muscle aches and pains may also be prescribed. For more severe pain such as migraine, products like Mersyndol and Fiorinal tablets are considered safe when used for short periods of time, but you should see your doctor if required frequently or if pain persists. Mefenamic acid, indomethacin and aspirin are best avoided while breastfeeding, unless otherwise recommended by your doctor.

Almost anything you take ends up in your breast milk. Don't take anything without checking with your doctor first. If you must take something switch permanently to prepared formula. Your baby has already gotten the main benefit of breast feeding from you which is passive immunity. Her immune system is on go by now, so you wouldn't be remiss in switching to the bottle. Good luck with those migraines.

There is prescription called Midrin, I took it during pregnancy and nursing. migraines are odd, I never even had a headache in my life until I delivered my 2nd child, then they hit me horribly.. funny thing is they have gone away after the birth of my twins.. I guess mine were hormonally related.. best of luck to you.
