I love my job and the people i work with, but its taking an impact on my social life. I am only 16 years old and i work every friday and saturday from 6-10 and never have time to go out with my friends. Its not like they can just give someone my hours. I am the only other waitress other then my boss and she needs me. I want to find a job that i work in the day time and some nights but also have a couple nights to my self still working between 18-20 hours. I just don't know how to tell my boss i dont want her to get mad at me i just want a good excuse. I am only gonna quit if i find a job first and they pay me decently with enough hours and i work in the day time. Any suggestions? please

Find a job in retail. They generally have more staff so that they can adjust your hours so that you aren't always working weekend nights.

Good Luck!

If your boss is making you feel obligated to work every spare hour your not in school, you might want to find a new job altogether. What will happen when you graduate and go to college? Or better yet, want a job that pays better?
It's sweet of you to feel graditude for your job, but this is also a time for social growth. If your trading time at a job for time to drink and get high, then stay at work and out of trouble.
What you'll want to do is schedule and appointment with your boss, when it's not busy..."I need to talk with you about my schedule, when would be a good time?" Don't beat around the bush, just come out with it. "I would like fewer hours each week so I can enjoy life a little" If you beat around it, or aren't sure what you want, your boss won't take you seriously and will give you excuses and reasons not to give you leaner hours. If your boss is immature and schedules you NO hours (because I've had that before) simply quit. You're nobody's slave.

If your honest with her she will not get mad. Trust me, just tell her exactly what you told us and you will be fine. You dont like the hours and if she wants you to stay you will take afternoon and night shifts, if not you will just have to go some where else. Dont feel bad, she'll get over it. If you want to work in the real work you need to start learning to stand up for yourself.

you should find that new job first, and then tell your boss that you found a new job with hours that accomidate your schedule better. she doesn't need to know it's for your social schedule. for all she knows, you have church on saturday evenings and volunteer for a pet rescue center on sundays.
if she really wants to keep you, she will match the hours and pay that your new job is willing to give you. don't worry about it too much. she will survive without you.

Just tell the truth. You don't have a social life. That sounds like a good excuse to me.

Its a hard row to hoe but, if you want material things you have to work for them....I would suggest you keep your eye on the want-ads in the local newpaper and respond if you see one that suits your needs. Its a very good idea not to burn bridges...if you do leave your present employ, do it with a smile....and give your boss time to replace you......good luck
