Hi, I too have been in the same situation. People were telling me how great the blonde looked, then when I decided to go back to my natural, brown hair, they said it looked much nicer.
one of the main reasons I can think of for them being so undecisive, is the fact that when you first dyed your hair, it probably looked really bright and shiny, in great condition and full of life. However, the bleach in blonde hair dye has a tendency to wreak havock on your hair, causing it to become very dry and brittle. It also fades fairly quickly. So perhaps it started to look a bit faded and unhealthy, therefore, when it was freshly dyed back to brown, it would, once agin, have looked vibrant and healthy.
remember that dying your hair too often will result in it becoming a complete mess, as I have learnt the hard way!
Maybe you are one of those lucky people who can carry-off any hair colour, and look great. Some people have such skin-tones that mean they look rediculous with anything other than their natural colour.
remember, if you had a friend, and they dyed their hair a different colour, would YOU be likely to tell them it looked awful if it didn't suit them? maybe you would, but I feel most people think it is better to be dishonest to save someone's feelings being hurt!
Also, remember that everyone has their own oppinions, and maybe your mums oppinion differed greatly from other peoples! I can remember many times, when I was younger, my mum would insist on me having a fringe cut into my hair, and wearing it in really pathetic styles, which she swore looked lovely. But looking back at old photo's, I know for a fact I looked COMPLETELY disgusting! lol.
Well. I wish you and your hair the best of luck for the future!X

I think people should be truthful. The truth does hurt sometimes, but I would have a hard time with being a Hypacrite. So dont ask me a question, if you handle the truth. Love yourself the way you are, dont live trying to impress others because you never will.

Have you ever heard the expression.
If it aint broke don't fix it.
Your friends did'nt want to hurt your feeling thats all, or they don't really care.
I know girls worry about there apearance and so they should.
You want to try a model agency and ask them what hair style and colour would suit you. You need good advice. So ask people that really no there stuff, not your equally vain friends.
sorry to be blunt.

I know that as humans we tend to be selfish. We want to hear the truth went its not our business, when it is we don't !! Although your mom's honesty hurt to the core, it was better for her to tell you her true feelings than for her to lie to you just so you could feel better. Tell me, which do you prefer? Your Mother's sincerity and less embarrassment, or become a laughingstock for the rest of your life? You Choose.

Of course they didn't want to hurt your feelings. But it is possible that it suits you both ways.
To answer your question, yes they should have been honest from the beginning.

Everyone has their own opinion - it could be that they use didn't want to hurt your feelings or maybe your mom was in a minority that didn't like it on you.
I agree that it's always best to tell the truth, but at least you know that you can always count on your mom to be there for you!

They were telling you the truth. You stunned them when you went blonde. I'm sure it still looked nice, though, so they told you that it did. Later, when you went dark again, those people probably looked at you and thought "She looked nice blonde, but now that she'd dark again, and I can see how dark really is better for her."
