New ipod user. I have a Pretty Detailed Question. please answer!! im desperate!!?

Ok so i bought this ipod nano 2gb from a kid who sold it to me for 50 dollars. I got the usb port from Target, and i plugged it into my computer, and it said i have to have a cd or download the latest version of itunes. i didnt have the cd, so i downloaded itunes7.1.1 from itunes.com. then when i plugged it in again, it said that the ipod is not compadible with the version, and to reinstall it. i did that about 5 times, and the same pop up pops up, and im getting pretty annoyed. PLEEAASSEE answer this question, only if your confident with your answer. im reallllllly desperate. THAANK YOU!!!!!

If it's the 1G Nano (with the scratch-easy acrylic face, not the wrap-around anodized aluminum shell), it's possible that the owner never upgraded the firmware resulting in the latest iTunes iteration being unable to talk with it. Unfortunately, to upgrade the firmware on the iPod, you'll need to already have it talking with a copy of iTunes. I can think of two possible fixes to this:

1. Find whoever sold it to you, have them upgrade their copy of iTunes and sync the iPod to it. It should prompt you to upgrade the firmware on the iPod as well. Do it. Then when you take it back to your computer, they should be able to talk to each other, at which point you'll want to do a full Restore on the iPod to get it to sync with your computer instead of the original owner's.

2. Ask around with any friends that own iPods and see if any of them have either the 1G Shuffle, the 1G Nano, or the 5G Video (G as in Generation, not GB as in Gigabyte, BTW), all of which should have approximately the same iteration of iTunes. Uninstall iTunes from your computer, install from the disc, plug your iPod in, and see if it recognizes it. If it does, Restore it (again, to get it syncing with your computer), have iTunes check for updates, upgrade to iTunes 7.x, and let it upgrade the firmware on your iPod when it's done.

try a later version of itunes and if tht don't work take it to target, radio schack, etc. and tell them wats going on and don't tell them u got it from a kid say u bought it a few days ago or somethin like tht and they'll tell u wat to do or give u a new one........
