Between the mentality and state of society, world events, technology, attitudes of their parents own generation that raised them...it all molds who a person is and generally generations do differ on attitude and views. Wikipedia has a pretty good amount of info on each generation.
I find that even just between me and my sister... my group has always tended to be more cynical, while hers is more independent and (not to sound bad, but) self centered.

I hope this cut from my assignment on Gen Yers as customers will help you:
A “Generation Y”, “millennium” or “echo boomer” customer is identified by the year she/he was born in. They are those who were born in between 1978 and 1994. (Dunne & Lusch 2005). Its previous generation, called the “Generation X” or “Baby busters” were born in between 1965 and 1977; and are now a declining population (Dunne & Lusch 2005).
“Gen Yers” arising to a vast purchasing and consumption power in the economy (Dunne & Lusch 2005). Retailers are aware that “Generation Y” customers have lots of money to spend (Keating 2000). It is not unusual that kids get US$ 50 a week as pocket money (Keating 2000). This is not surprising however, as the economical situation has never been as good as it is for “Gen Yers” (Keating 2000).
They distinguish themselves from previous generations by racial diversity, three out of four “Generation Y“ mothers are working and one out of four is a single-parent (Dunne & Lusch 2005). In addition to that, they tend to life alone before marriage, aiming for good jobs and health; but also prioritize family and home (Dunne & Lusch 2005). It is furthermore interesting that a large number of “Gen Yers” do not know how to wound a watch or use a type writer (Dunne & Lusch 2005). However they are technology and computer literate like no other generation ever (Keating 2000). It is the first generation that fully grew up with computers and therefore it is not surprising that a ten year old easily handles and programs a hand held computer while a grown up business man may struggles with it (Keating 2000).

I believe it would be the degree to which they feel entitled- which has scary implications. I was born in the '60's and was a teen in the '70's. The seventies young folks were called the "Me Generation" and our parents worried that we were given too much and were experiencing way too much freedom- often in the form of "drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll". Then came the 80's and '90's and more parents worked for better wages than ever with 2 incomes- (Y and Z generations) but the parents felt guilty being out of their childrens' lives so much that they made up for it by giving their children lots of material things. Then came the big recession of 2008 and lots of layoffs. The children of the '90's and beyond were used to a lot of material things given to them without a whole lot asked of them in return. Now, these same kids are growing up and are expected to somehow "save the world"! Today's young people are inundated with loads of technological gadgets and gimmicks but not as much focus on the value of personal sacrifice and responsibility which could cause less of a real spiritual connection to God and one's fellow Man in the generations to come if the trends of the last 40 years continue.

They're just different generations. For instance, me and my siblings were born from 1978-1993 and we are Generation X so our kids will be Generation Y and they're kids will be generation Z, etc...
