I regret buying a photo printer, I prefer to burn pics to disc and get them done at a photo shop, its cheaper and I never get a bad print. Next time I'm going to buy a cheap laser printer for printing text, its cheaper than using the cartridges for a page of text. The cheap cartridges don't do good photos, skin tones are not as realistic. A good alternative is 'continuous ink system' if you do a lot of printing, you get big bottles of ink that feed into the cartridges. Its a lot cheaper.

Yes they can. Each printer will have a driver CD with it, to install onto your PC. Then each time you go to print something, you can edit the printer preferences. You can select 'text only' 'text and photo' 'best photo' etc, and the printer will utilize your ink accordingly. They all use pretty much the same cartridges, but I recommend you buy your ink from eBay, as you'll find some cartridges work out almost as expensive as printers!!

Yes, they certainly can. Photo printers are simply capable of printing high quality photos *in addition to* ordinary text etc.

We have a Canon Pixma MP 160. It does everything except the dishes! It uses inkjets. We love it.
