When my daughter was that age, The doctor told me to buy
"Baby Vapor bath" and pour a little bit onto a wash cloth, and then put it in her crib, outta of reaching distance, but near her head, so she can smell it. and leave it there for about 20 mins.
Aslo, they sell a medicine, it is called "little colds" and they have "little noses", they work good, for kids their age.

There is some stuff Johnsons makes with gentle vapors in it. I wouldn't put Vicks on his nose... I wouldn't put Vicks on him at all if I were you. Use a humidifier, buy some little noses saline drops, and suction his nose out once (1) per hour (no more than that or it could make him even more stuffy!) And go and buy the Johnson's stuff... you can find it in the baby section at Walmart next to all of the regular Johnson's soaps & lotions. There's even a rub/lotion that has vapors in it. It works great. I still use it on my girls and they are 3 & 4 years old.

No, I wouldn't. I have a 4 month old who just got over a cold. Don't put vapor rub for adults on a baby. Walgreen's has Johnson&Johnson's soothing vapor rub for babies, and the label on that even says Don't put it on their nose. Only apply to chest and neck once or twice daily. If you don't have a Walgreen's, check another drug store or Wal-Mart or somewhere. Also my doc told me never give a baby infant cold medicine as this has been known to cause serious problems for your baby. A vaporizer is a must have. you can put kaz inhalant or vick's vapor rub in the little cup at the top to help moisturize the air and improve breathing. The best quick fix for a little one's stuffy nose is saline drops for infants. Do Not use the saline spray for adults. Try "Little Noses" (unmedicated kind) you can use this as often as you like without irritating nasal passages. Drop like 2 drops in each nostril and wait about 3 mins and suction out nostrils. Hope this helps!! Good Luck and hope your baby feels better soon!!

You can rub a little bit of it on his chest, but just be careful in case he has a skin allergy to it. Sometimes it can be a little too harsh for them and thier skin may have a sensitivity to it. The best thing would to give him some Tylenol Infants Drops that you can get at any drug store. It's ususally around $4, give or take. They have different remedies for stuffy noses, colds, etc. so get whatever's best for you baby. Also, the Viks Humidifier works wonders for infants! All you do is fill it w/ water and some of the KAZ inhalant and plug it in. It lasts about 32 hrs and you don't have to worry about the skin allergy thing. I think the cost of the humidifier is around $20 and the inhalant is around $5-10. (It's been a while since I've bought some, so it may have changed.) It's definitely worth the $$ you invest in it b/c you can also use it for yourself as well as your children. (And you don't use a lot of the inhalant either. Maybe about 2 tsps.!)

Don't you have a bulb syringe? First mix up this recipie for saline solution:
Mix 8 ounces of tap water (1 measuring cup) with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of table salt and a pinch of baking soda.
Keep the saline in a bottle or glass for a maximum of 24 hours. Then throw the solution away, wash the container, and make a new solution.

Then follow these instructions:
Instructions for Infants
The equipment you need:

bulb syringe or nasal saline rinse bottle
normal saline solution (see recipe at end of text)
plastic dropper.
Put 10 to 20 drops (0.6 to 1 ml) of normal saline in each nostril. Use a bulb syringe to suction out the mucus and saline. Repeat the procedure if necessary.
It is important to clean the bulb syringe daily. To clean it, draw hot soapy water into the syringe, shake, and squeeze. Rinse the bulb syringe thoroughly with clear tap water. Store the syringe with the tip down to drain completely.

Not to argue with any of My fellow Answerers here but, Please NEVER put Vicks or any petroleum based rubs in a nose or under the nose. They base an oil base which can lead to a fatty or Lipid pneumonia. My mom always put Vicks in our noses as kids or boil it and had us inhale it. Seriously read up on lipid pneumonia. Saline with the bulb syringe may be your answer. Humidification, monitor use of strong air fresheners and don't extreme temps in your house. Babies may also get allergies. Good luck

Don't put it on his nose you put it on his chest. Better yet use the humidifier and put the vapor rub on the machine (there is a little place for it next to the spout). I always used a wedge under the mattress so that the head section was slightly elevated but w/o the risk of having a pillow in the crib.

Don't put it under his nose, put it on his chest. He could rub it right into his eyes. If you have a cool mist humidifier on low in his room when he is sleeping. Make sure that you have vacuumed and dusted his room too so that he is not trying to block out the dust while fighting the stuffy nose.
Good Luck

My pediatrician gave me this home remedy:(saline solution)
mix- 1 cup lukewarm water
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
squirt a little up each nostril and use a bulb syringe to suction
out the snot. You may have to have help holding his little arms down, but this stuff will disolve all the gunk in his nasal cavity and it's cheaper than buying the actual saline.
Keep a humidifier on at night to keep him breathing good.

EEk no not vicks. Try Karvol suitable from 3 months I think comes in capsule or liquid form. Especially for babies. I use it for my 9 month old. I first used it when she was 5 months and it really helped her to sleep.

Also, if you put a towel under the mattress it will angle the mattress slightly so he's not lying flat on his back. This will help him breathe better too.

Good luck! xxx
