Why don't you just advocate sterilization of the weak and helpless, the ignorant and/or retarded, the blind, the deaf, and the most ugly among us? Oh wait, that would include you, wouldn't it!

I said that not enough people are getting welfare and some don't get enough. But there is a way to make sure people won't take advantage of taxpayers money, make a government debit card where it will record every single transaction you make with the governments money. If a grocery store decides to let the person on welfare buy beer or junk fine the place that sold it and kick that person off. Don't let a few bad seeds ruin HONEST people life's. Also if you are single with no disability's then the government can force you to work for 50 hours a week besides the elderly.

I would support a government take over of all casinos then the proceeds can probably pay welfare all by itself.

I am pretty anti-welfare...however I think taking it away from ALL is going a step too far.

I know for a fact that there are people who need it and don't get it...AND there are people who DO NOT need it, and get it every month.

I had a friend. He was making pretty good money. He got married (she did not make much money...but did work), had a kid...screwed up and got a DUI. Because of the DUI conviction, his work let him go because he no longer had a drivers license. He got on food-stamps and WIC. He did not qualify for welfare. But he got off of the assistance ASAP once he got another job. The new job paid much less, but enough to not need the food stamps. They kept the WIC for baby formula etc.

In his case, he needed temporary assistance, and could not get it fully. Just the food-stamps. But, it helped and 3 months later he was off and running again. So, killing the program completely is not a good option. I think simply paying attention to those who use assistance programs is a better idea. Further, using a better decision making process for those who qualify. For instance. If you own a new escalade, own your house, but have a low paying job, you should not get food stamps until you have liquidated your assets. Perhaps net worth might be a better qualifier than weekly income - or in addition.

ABUSE is the problem. not USE.

Just my humble opinion.

EDIT: I think, after reading the posts that many people are confusing welfare (TANF - Temp. Assistance for Needy Families) with SSI (social security income), SDI (social security disability income), Food-stamp programs, subsidized child care, WIC, etc. They are ALL different and seperate programs. A person might qualify for one, but not all.

Well, here it is in a nutshell. You are asking a really debatable, worthy question but you have worded it wrong. All that are on welfare don't use it in the way's that you have listed. Though there are some that do. There are some states that have more people living on welfare then others and for some it has become addictive and there is no way they want to give it up. It is way to easy for them to live off the system. In these states there needs to be more industry brought in and more jobs created. Then you need to put them to work for good and for real. Real jobs for real people! Not work for a government check, that sounds a bit like communism to me. I don't like the welfare system at all. I also believe that given a choice whether to have a good job with insurance then waiting on a Government penitence most would choose to work. So what really needs to be done is get America working. My opinion, and what a big nutshell!

The rich love welfare for the poor. To have a wealthy class there must also be a poor class. Welfare keeps those who are on it trapped in poverty assuring that they will never advance to the middle class economically. However the welfare money is spent it is recirculated back into the economy so that even those who are not on welfare benefit somewhat from it indirectly.

Not everyone uses it for what you think. The majority of people use it to pay for food, rent, clothing, and medical costs (if you're lucky enough to be able to have enough for even that).

Don't be ignorant, do a little research on what poor people go though who are not addicts and irresponsible.

It would be better to hold those accountable that do abuse the system for the things you've mentioned. To punish everyone for what a percentage of people do is unfair and more importantly, it doesn't solve the problem. My guess, you would find a huge increase in crime if your suggestion became law.

You shouldn't generalize. There are those that will take advantage of ANY system, but even if it's helping a few people it's a worthwhile endeavor. Instead of taking away wellfare to lower taxes, how about we force politicians to take civil servant paychecks and stop using taxes to buy expensive houses and cars? Much more sensible than cutting off what is a vital lifeline to some.

I say no, but..........
I do believe it needs reformed. I agree with your statement somewhat. A lot of people abuse the system, however, there are still plenty of people who depend on a helping hand as a bridge to better themselves. Why punish everyone for someone else's selfishness? The Welfare System doesn't work but we do need it. Someone needs to go in and start cleaning house. Do some shake, rattle and roll some heads!!

I think the government should pull a "stop government aid for one month" program and see how many people it really affects.....its sad that people would use their FREE MONEY to buy drugs, alcohol, etc....take care of your kids!! Thats what that money is there for, not for you to shop at the goodwill just so you can have a pair of baby phat jeans, or that new blackberry.....its really starting to get pathetic how many people take advantage of our government.....and all because they're lazy....plain & simple......the people that are truly disabled, dont normally take advantage, they would much rather not be disabled.....oh i could go on and on....this will never end tho, our government will still give money to these lazy *** holes while we sit and work 40 plus hours a week.....maybe we should ALL get together and refuse to pay taxes.....lol...wonder if something like that would really work....

Well, theres many people that abuse it but also those who USE it, like single moms for example, i know many cases of kids who had to share their bed with their brother or sister, or those who dont have sufficient income to buy their school supplies, or even food supplies, those cases i can understand and relate to them because ive seen it from really closebut the rest i would say theres a lot of people that abuse it for many years and it is unfare that we support their partying and waste of Money. Some people live better off walfer than those who actually work their *** for their money, so i think the goverment should get a little more strict with who gets money and who doesnt. Lets not punish those in need for all the ambitious people who cant have enough.

Also, i think racist people like i see a lot answering here, should not comment on who should or shouldnt get it, or what lenguage they have to speak in order to get help fropm the goverment,

JUST SO ALL YOU KNOW:

the goverment helps people in need all around the worl, people who immigrate, despite of their language, if they are in danger in their country and need a starting help, it will be given to them.

DONT FORGET THAT if you are not a native, then u are as equal as all the rest, ur ancestors came from somewhere and who knows what kinda help they needed from the govt. so lets not be racist or point fingers at people who will probably accept you or ur future decendents in THEIR COUNTRY, when the global warming makes it impossible to live here. =D

AND MY ANSWER IS NO.
