When it comes to bisexuality, I've noticed many otherwise open minded people couldn't bear the thought of that. I have a hairdresser who is gay and claims that there is no such thing as biseuxality as well as other friends claiming bisexuality is "screwed up" and such. How can you convince people like that how bisexuality is more common than homosexuality & it's not as people always percieve it (i.e. they aren't always "confused," sleeping with both genders, cannot commit) because there are varying degrees of biseuxality. What are the real stats and myths when it comes to bisexuality and bisexual people? Honest answers please, no anti-gay or hateful comments.

I believe in the grey scale theory of sexuality. In other words, sexuality isnt black or white. Everyone falls on a scale where they can be 60/40, 90/10 etc for either gender/and or sex. I associate myself to being lesbian simply bc I would fall on an extreme end of this scale. And as for yourself you simply fall in the middle somewhere. I explain this theory to others when they ask me my opinion or whatever. I think it especially applies for you. If they cant understand where you are coming from following this explaination then maybe its not worth your time, right?

Honest answers are hard to come by on this subject. Because of the stigma attached to bisexuality among both the heterosexual and homosexual communities. The truth is that if you are straight and have ever participated in any sexual activity with an individual of the same sex such as, oral sex giving or receiving, mutual masturbation or any variation there of then you qualify as being bisexual. If your identify as homosexual and you have ever participated in any sexual act with a member of the opposite gender than you qualify as being bisexual. I am not referring to what you prefer to do here but only in regards to what you have done. If the straights and homosexuals who see bisexuality as simply being confused could see how many people fit under this broad definition than they would be forced to see it differently.

Yeah, I'm going to second everything mentioned by last two people and add simply that bisexuality is the most complex situation of all three of the sexualities, and as such presents challenges to the small minded of either of the others simply because they can't wrap their brains around it.
It's not all black and white, and the fact that they can't grasp it shouldn't bother you one bit. IMO- that makes you one up on them in the brains and maturity department.

Yeah, bisexuality takes abuse from both sides (no pun intended). I've heard it before from straight and gay people... bisexuals are just "confused" or "afraid to be gay" or "promiscuous". Not true. Bisexuality is a sexual orientation just like homosexuality and heterosexuality.
There is the Kinsey scale of human sexuality, ranging from 0-6, 0 being absolutely heterosexual and 6 being absolutely homosexual, and most people fall somewhere in between. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale
There are several articles written on the subject:

It's hard to get statistics because many people will identify as the sexuality via the relationship they're currently in. Bisexuals in monogamous heterosexual relationships won't be seen as bisexual. It also does appear that men are more hardwired towards one-or-the-other than women, who appear to be slightly more flexible in their sexuality. (This isn't true for all women or all men, and part of it may be cultural as well.)
I've explained it to students as 'being attracted to who someone is, rather than what their bits are.'

Not all Gay people think that way, but The Gay police keep them at bay, so you don't get to hear the majority.
Bisexuality has been around for thousnads of years, its the need of modern society to give everything a genre.
All I would say is sod what they think, just enjoy your life, and be proud of who you are, regardless of your sexuality, religion, colour, creed, size etc.
There will always be whingeing gits no matter who you are or what you do!
