Well i know someone who got a DUI, he was drunk driving and well thought he was gonna make it home, but it happens he got pulled over by the cops...he never hit no one, and did nothing bad but was driving while intoxicated with Alcohol.

Is there anything else he can get other than going to jail? Like being on a probation?

This was his first time ever doing this before...so...he is really nervous.

Here is the modern reality about this subject, driving under the influence of anything that is illegal. In California there are many people who get into serious problems with the DMV, the city police, the county police, and the state and federal police because a DUI goes on your driving record, and DUI is no laughing nor light matter. One of the golden rules about driving is if you are going to drive, drive, but do not drive if you take any kind of drug or alcohol, because many people have gotten killed on the road by a drunk driver or a dope user who drives and that is why you will go to jail, then prison, then after you are released from custody you have a bad rap with the department of vehicles, so, then, you will have to use some other means of public transportation, cuss you cannot drive again for a long time till you can prove that you aren't going to ingest anything illegal and that you can drive safely again.

Yes. There is a very large chance of going to jail while you have gotten a DUI regardless of whether, or not anyone has been hit, or there was an accident involved. Anytime you even put yourself in a position to drive while intoxicated you are upping your chances of spending time in jail.

On a firts DUI you are going to get probation. You are also going to get a fine. And it will not be cheap, over $1500 for sure. Along with the probation and fine, you will have to attend a alcohol education program, pay a $125 reinstatement fee to the dmv, and also lose your license for 6 months, which will put one point on your driving record.

You also are going to have to get a SR-22 in order to ever be insured on a vehicle again and therefore your insurance is going to sky rocket.

Different ages have higher risks of more, or less jail time, and more or less insurance prices, also higher levels of alcohol or BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) are taken into consideration when it comes to jail, but usually you are sentenced to 10 days.

Depends on what state you are in. Most people will not do jail time if its a first offense. He will probably have to go to an alcohol program instead of doing jail time. He will have a fine, license suspension and probation also. Its not fun but not the end of the world either.

If its more than a first offense, it is pretty safe to say he will get all of the above plus jail time

DO NOT go to court without an attorney!!!

Back in the day when my husband use to drink, He stayed in trouble with the cops. He got his first DUI and I think that he only had to pay a fine, His second DUI was a bigger fine. His third was considered to be a felony. He had to spend six months in jail and five years of probation. Had to pay a fine every month for five years threw a probation officer.

He should go to jail, but he probably won't. He put the lives of everyone on the road, at risk that night! It was a really stupid and wreckless thing to do. There is no excuse to ever drink and drive. Frankly, as a mother it pisses me off. I do everything to protect my children, but how can I protect them from some jerkoff who was too stupid to call a cab? There really should be stricter laws regarding DUIs...its not a minor thing. He didn't hit anyone just by dumb luck!

A true 1 st DUI will probably get probation or a fine.......Tell your friend to stay off the road for a few hours before he drives after he's been drinking.

yes he can get a big fat fine..He will probably lose his license at least for a little while.. He might be able to get an occupational!
If does get put in jail and this is his first offensive they will probably give him the work release program..They are not so easy on drunk drivers anymore!
I am not judging..(because I know that I have done it in the past..I won't do it anymore though!!!)

Spends the night in jail, released with bail, pays a fine and definite license suspension. The sentence for this usually depends on the deliberation of the judge. So your friend has to wait for his hearing day in court
