I think you allready know how underscores look like ...
There are used freq. in Yahoo! MSN ect IDs.
There are used in case that you need to separate the words without spaces.you can't make an ID such as myname 91 4ever but you can make like this one myname_91_4ever

In case you don't know how are they look like ... _
