My short answer: be open to no meds if achieveable, yet do what feels splendid for you and your infant in the 2nd. My long answer is my own "no meds" start tale. i became a week late and given a cervadil suppository to get me to dialate slightly on a Sunday evening--and we've been going to do pitocin the am after. i became so bummed, having heard that pitocin contractions are undesirable.... I made peace with it, and dediced an epidural could be maximum suitable if the discomfort have been given too undesirable. yet my daughter bowled over us all! I dialated thoroughly after some hours on the cervadil, and unexpectedly the child became waiting to return out! The rfile counseled some prepare pushes w/o discomfort meds, and a hour later, my daughter became born. lower back: i became a mom-to-be that believed an epidural would be maximum suitable for me. I also have a low tolerance for discomfort and get kinda wiggy in hospitals. yet i could no longer have been happier with my non-med start. It became the main effective adventure of my existence. Did it harm? easily! don't think all and sundry who says it would not. The discomfort became dizzying, blinding. however the pay offs have been astonishing. i became waiting to push very effectively by way of fact i could sense the contractions and had an thought of the place to push by way of fact i could sense the medical doctors palms. i could substitute positions as mandatory by way of fact I had administration over my legs, torso.... maximum suitable of all, my daughter became born alert, healthful, waiting to breastfeed splendid away. Neither human beings have been groggy in any respect. And there has been a brilliant long term era result besides: any time i think i'm no longer good adequate to do something--be it actual or psychological--i think of decrease back to my start adventure. It became very painful, yet i became an energetic participant--I DID IT! An further benefit: my husband has the utmost admire for me having seen what I continued first hand... : ) P.S. I had my no-meds start adventure in a scientific institution. i'm no longer partial to homestead births. purely in case something is going incorrect. (And given your sister's adventure, you could evaluate this heavily.) yet this is purely me. a lot of my friends birthed at homestead and enjoyed it.
