I'm 23 weeks 3 days pregnant. And have been told twice that I'm having a girl I was told at 16 weeks and at 22 weeks and I was wondering how accurate ultrasounds are? And also if it would be a good Idea to buy the crib already or if I should still wait? This is my first child so I get curious. Thanks you for your help

As for when you should have the crib set up in the nursery, that's really up to you. Some people are superstitious and don't want to set things up until birth is imminent, others want to set it up while they're still mobile enough to enjoy it! But there is a difference between *having* the crib and ordering it -- as someone else said, many cribs are made overseas and it can take several weeks from the time you order a crib until the time it is ready to be delivered. If you have an idea of what crib you want my best advice is to ask how long it will take once you order it -- you may need to order very soon.

Ultrasounds are fairly accurate but they are definitely not perfect as a means of identifying a baby's gender. Chances are you're having a girl but could you end up surprised in the delivery room? Sure, it would hardly be the first time! Also, such "errors" occur more frequently when ultrasound "shows" a girl that is actually a boy (for obvious reasons -- it's a lot easier to *not* see a penis that turns out to exist, than it is to see a penis when it's not there!) Anyway, chances are you're having a girl, especially if you were told that on two separate occasions!

I was paranoid about something going wrong. I think I ordered mine at about 28 weeks. Consider where are you going to put it when it comes...if you don't have the room now, I'd wait for a while longer.

Before you buy it, decide if you want a bassinett, co-sleeper or crib. My sister in law spent $500 on a crib she never uses-she co-sleeps. I used mine from the time my baby was 6 weeks, so its been worth it!

Ultrasounds are pretty accurate, but can always be wrong. I have heard stories.... If you aren't sure, then maybe pick neutral bedding - good money saver if you have a girl and then a boy next. Or just enjoy the new life and buy everying in pink and worry about it later, if you end up with a boy. :)
Congrats.

If they told you that you were having a girl twice, chances are it's a girl!! Congrats! You can buy your crib whenever you are ready. I noticed that a lot of people are saying wait, but I like having everything all ready and the crib is the start of your baby's room! If you have the space, why not get it? Most people do not use the crib at first though. You will need a bassinet or something as I am sure that you will want her in your room for a while! Congrats on your baby girl!

it depends on if you're using a crib, bassinet, or letting baby sleep next to you at the beginning. If using crib, I would buy it at least 6wks or so before due date, in case you should have baby a little early. I generally like using bassinet for first 3 or 4 months, because it's easy to move around and I can put it next to my bed. I did that, however, because I had my children 2 yrs apart and they weren't quite ready to get out of crib when the next child arrived. (You can find an inexpensive one at a second hand shop or find someone who has a nice one you can borrow.)
Oh, I almost forgot. The ultrasounds are pretty accurate, but I have a few friends who had several done and were certain of what they were having, only to find out when baby is born, that they were wrong! Keep ALL the tags on your new baby clothes and have a small bag handy with maybe a 2 or 3 newborn boy outfits in it, just in case. It will buy you a little time to have someone exchange clothes for you.

ultrasounds are pretty accurate. Also you technically do not need a crib until they are about 2 months old. They sleep in the bassinette before then (in room with you). If you want to have it set up early, though like by the time you are 30 weeks (you will be too big, tired and cranky after 30 weeks) , then that would be a great idea. I gave my daughter naps in her crib from the beginning, and put her in her own room at 2 months.

Most people want to have the room completely ready, even though they put baby in a bassinet for the first 3 months or less. Keep in mind that it may take several weeks for the furniture store to order, receive and deliver the furniture, and then a little more time for Daddy to put it together. :) I would pick out and order what you want around the 28 week mark. Regarding ultrasounds...they are pretty accurate these days so I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm 33 weeks with my first. I would suggest that you buy soon. A lot of cribs are made overseas and so, the lead time on them could be from 6-10 weeks. I think I purchased mine around the 25-26 week.

I'd wait to buy a crib for several reasons:
1) You may yet recieve one as a gift.
2) bassinettes and co-sleepers are more cozy for a newborn as they are smaller and enclosed.
3) A bassinette or co-sleeper near your bed will make night time feedings easier.
4) You probably won't need it for a few months, so it'll just be taking up space.
5) It's hard to tell what kind of set-up will work best for you and your baby until you're actually doing it. A crib may be totally unnecessary for you.
6) You're hormonal and easy prey for advertisers right now. It's hard to separate what you need from the "perfect baby nursery" the ads want to sell you. Better to wait a little and avoid spending too much.

I went to an ultrasound at 7months pregnate and they still didnt know! The doctor should give you a pretty clear answer though. Its either there or its not you know? haha. Dont be too anxious though. The first couple weeks or months the baby might not even use his crib... My son didnt use his crib for 2-3months I transitioned from a bedside sleeper. newborns dont like to be alone! good luck!
