my company wants to put our paycheck together with a company bonus,i was told we pay more taxes that way. What is true? thank you!

Irregular payments such as bonuses are supposed to be withheld at a flat 25% regardless of your normal withholding percentage. Some companies are unaware of this requirement and incorrectly withhold at your regular rate.

There might be more withheld when you get the check, but the tax rate is the same so if too much is withheld, then you'll get the extra back as a refund when you file your tax return.

Each year I worked for a Tax Preparation Service our bonuses were taxed at 40%. It is because it brings your wages,tips, and salaries up to a larger taxable income at one big jump.
