Depending on how far along you are. . .
You can be 2 cm dialated with contractions off and on and it can last for about a week.
You doctor will want to see you if your water breaks, it is not always a gush, some time it will only be a little bit, like you are peeing yourself. If this is the case you want to be seen because that means that the bag has broken and there is a chance for infections.
Most doctors do not want to see you, of have you head to the hospital until your contractions are regular, and you might want to head out when they are hourly or every 20 minutes, depending on how far you are from the hospital.
I was due on the 15th, on the 3rd I went in for a check and i was 2cm, no contractions, no nothing,
On the 4th at 11pm I woke up and took a cold shower because I was hot ( not abnormal for me) While in the shower I lost my plug, I started cramping, contractions, and my son was born at 5am on the 5th.

You are more than likely experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions. True labor will not start until you get a consistent contraction pattern somewhere around 5-7 min apart and they stay that way for at least an hour. Contractions a day or two apart do not constitute true labor, however you can actually have contractions and not be able to feel them. If you are really really concerned, call your doc. Good Luck!!!!

I don't know how far along you are, but unfortunately it sounds like braxton hicks. You can be dialed 1 cm for weeks, over a month even and nothing happens. Your contractions should be a regular patter of every 5 mins, a minute in length each time, for at least an hour.
Good luck!

Those may be braxton hicks contractions or false contractions. When the contractions are timed at 5 minutes apart, for over an hour, you cannot walk or breathe through them, it's time to head to the hospital.
You can be dilated for weeks on end and not deliver.

I would call your Dr. and ask them. I was 1 cm dilated by
36 weeks and was dilated to 4 cm by 39 weeks, but I still went full term and even had to be induced.

When your contractions are 5 mins apart and your able to time them exactly to the min. Personally 5 mins apart is to soon, the doctors says 5 mins apart. When there 5 mins apart usually you have hours to go sit in the hospital with sick ppl bored and tied to IV's etc. 3 mins apart your contractions are much stronger and you wont be bored!
