Salary means you are on an annual pay base. Clocking in means you are on an hourly pay base.
For instance on salary lets say I am getting paid 40,000 per year. If i were an hourly employee i would clock in and out and get an hourly rate per hours worked.

With a salary, you get paid a flat rate every pay period, regardless of the number of hours you work. (You are expected to put in AT LEAST a certain number of hours, however.) Overtime is not usually paid.

A "clock-in" job is paid by the number of hours you actually work. So you would get paid for overtime hours in that case (unlike a salaried position).

Salary means you make the same amount of money no matter how many hours you work. Clock in means you are hourly, so if you work 40 hours at 8.00 an hour you just made 320.00.

Salary means you are paid a certain amount monthly no matter what. And hourly means you are paid by the amount of hours that you come in.

clock in : ususally for laborers. Get paid for overtime, responsible pretty much only for their labor (sometimes a lot more).

salary: usually for managers, they usually work more than 40 hrs, and manage their own time more. Don't get paid for overtime. More freedom, more responsibility.
