The quality of your undergraduate institution is one thing that medical schools consider when admitting students. In general, you are better off going to a highly ranked school rather than one that is less selective.

If you are going to a state university, you are better off going to the top state school -- or at least one of the top state schools. In your case, University of Michigan would be the best choice. Michigan State University would be the second best choice. GVSU wouldn't even qualify as the third best state university.

If I could get into one of those two -- then I wouldn't consider any other public university in Michigan. And if I couldn't get into one of them, then I would worry about my chances of ever getting into a medical school.
