I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was quite far gone, and I was going to terminate until I had a change of heart when the time had nearly ran out. The thing is, I had a very busy, bar orientated social life, I was drinking most evenings, and a hell of a lot at weekends. All this until I was around 4 months (I know, it is really bad) I'm now 24 weeks, there was no problem on my scan, and my midwifes appointment today went well. I'm just so worried thouh..has anybody else drank throuh their pregnancy, and how did the baby turn out?

I gave up drinking as soon as I found out that I was pregnant around 5weeks as I believe that complete abstinance is best, I have heard of women who take heroin and methadone in thier pregnancy and this can cause the baby to have withdrawal symptoms which can be the case with alcohol, ur baby wont have as you are giving up rite now! There could be damage like mild learning difficulties or cleft palate but these can be rectified if noticed, but if the midwife reckons the scan looks good then believe in that as there is not much else you can do, good luck hope you have a very healthy happy pregnancy and that you have a healthy baby xx

I drank almost everynight and weekends into the first 2-3 months with both of my children because I had no idea I was pregnant either time. I just had my second a little over a week ago and he is perfect. My daughter is 17 months and she is incredibly smart and perfect as well :-) There is no sense in worrying; nothing can be changed now and really, there is no need to worry. As long as you've stopped now, you're doing the right thing. be positive and believe that you are going to have a healthy baby. Look forward to meeting him or her- things will turn out wonderfully for you!

Your fears are understandable, however it would be best now for you to think positive and do not worry.
If your scan has gone well and the midwife is happy, relax and don't stress yourself out. You did the drinking before you knew, and things are good. You can't change the past. Make sure you cut the drinking out from now on, eat healthily, take exercise and rest. Your midwife/doctor should always be approachable for any advise you may need. Good luck with your pregnancy.

My friends autie didnt find out she was pregnant until quite late on and she had a very alcohol related social life too, as soon as she found out she was pregnant she stopped drinking and smoking and her baby was perfect when he arrived. There is nothing wrong with him and as far as I know he has always been a healthy child. Dont fret, but talk to your midwife if you do get worried, she can put your mind at rest. Just dont do it anymore which im sure youre not.

Good luck!

I drank throughout my pregnancy, and quite heavily , especially over the weekends, But i only drank because i lost someone very close to me in my early stages and it really hit me hard, i didnt even want my baby, but carried on regardless, I actually smoked very heavy too.....

I'm Happy to say, i had a healthy little girl , though she was rather small 5lb, she was fine, and actually the minute she was born we bonded immidiately, though her low birth weigh i think was down to my passive smoking

She's now a lively 6 yr old, and has had know side effects so my excessive drinking.....

I was lucky, she made it through, i would never drink or smoke through a pregnancy again....

I never drink much but it just happends that I had been drinking more then usual when I was pregnant. I found out at 7 weeks and stoped drinking. But I had done a lot of partying.
Im about to have my son any day now and hes been healthy the whole pregnancy.

sweetie if all of the test and scans are coming back fine then i would say maybe you are a lucky one.Did you talk to Your Dr about any of this, if you didn't then why don't you go ahead and do say maybe there are some specific test that they can run to let you know for sure. But i have seen women who drink during pregnancy and the baby was ok. I do hope that you are not continuing to drink now that you know.I wish you the best and good luck

Drinking is a bad idea, but if you stop the dammage may be able to heal itself, everything may be still okay. You can take folic acid and prenatal vitamins to help with brain development. I know someone that did a gram of coke and her baby turned out normal. But to be on the safe side stop cut back to one beer a day. I have know people do drink throughout pregnancy but in smaller quantities. There is no set limit on what causes damage and what doesnt. I am going to be careful not to drink from now on myself. But I had two beers before i knew.

Most of us have to deal with this problem of drinking early in pregnancy and the stress we go through after finding out we are pregnant but once nothing is detected in your visits and your baby's heartbeat is ok and you feel ok and take the necessary precautions to make sure his/her health is fine you should not worry. I know it may be hard but stressing yourself definitely isn't doing anything for the baby. you have 16more weeks to make sure you give your baby the best environment possible, forget about the past and concentraste on giving the baby what he/she needs and pray fot the best. Again if your visits are ok, don't worry, he/she is doing just fine. Congrats on your decision and I do wish you all the best!
