I need to type a letter to my Boss, (simple and casual but polite) asking 10 days for my honeymoon, I work in a small office and we don't have those employee vacation schedules that make things easier. I am not good expressing myself in letters, can someone help me find some sample letters? or have some ideas?

First you fix your Honeymoon, and contact me. I will e-mail the final form of the letter.

If you are wanting 10 days off, you may be able to shorten it by a day and still get everything quite simply. If you work a Mon-Fri job taking 1 weeks vacation is 9 consecutive days off. The weekend before, the week of and the weekend after. If it is 10 days paid youre looking for that might be a tall order for a small employer to fill.

Dear Mr. Smith,

As you know I am getting married on April 4, 2007. We are going on a honeymoon following until April 14, 2007. I would appreciate that time off.

Thank you,

FIRST OF ALL, DO YOU HAVE VACATION TIME AVAILABLE, AS THAT WOULD BE BEST; OTHERWISE YOU NEED TO REQUEST A LEAVE OF ABSENCE OR PERSONAL TIME. MOST EMPLOYERS WOULD BE RECEPTIVE TO YOUR REQUEST UNLESS YOUR JOB IS ONE THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO BARE CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE TO MAN WHILE YOU WERE GONE. WEDDINGS ARE AN IMPORTANT OCCASION, BUT, A LENTHY HONEYMOON IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF BUSINESS AND THEIR OVERALL POLICIES. THE LARGER THE COMPANY THE MORE RIGID THE POLICY, SO REVIEW THE POLICY, AND, IF IT PERMITS LEAVE WITHOUT PAY FOR PERSONAL SITUATIONS THEN REQUEST IT BY FIRST STATING THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK EXTRA TO OFFSET THE LOSS OF YOUR WORK LOAD, AND THAT YOU WOULD OFFSET THE TIME WITH FUTURE VACATION TIME OR PERSONAL LEAVE TIME. IF YOU WORKED FOR ME I WOULD LET YOU GO WITHOUT PAY, AND NOT COUNT IT AS VACATION TIME. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE ALREADY USED YOUR VACATION TIME, ASSUMING YOU HAD VACATION TIME TO A BEGIN WITH; I WOULD FROWN ON YOUR POOR ALLOCATION OF IT, AS WEDDINGS ARE PLANNED MONTHS IN ADVANCE AND SOMETIMES A YEAR IN ADVANCE. JUST BE YOURSELF AND FIT YOUR REQUEST TO THE AFOREMENTIONED FORMAT. IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR POSITION AND HOW IMPORTANT THE LOSS OF YOUR TIME IS TO THE COMPANY.

[10 days is awful long, try 5!]

dear supervisor;

To appease both the company and my financee,
I hereby request 'x' days off. I am planning
on learning HR skills by studying how males
act in close quarters and when under
unique pressures.

Thanks.
