Most definately by cutting your cats out you will get more hp and more torque and better fuel efficiency.. The cats restrict the flow of the exhaust through the system wich in turn works just like air intake the more efficent your intake is the better your gas mileage and the more hp it will compliment your k&n. Also as long as you leave the stock muffler on the car you should have a huge issue with noise. the stock chevy mufflers are super quiet.

Removing the cat won't help. All it will do is cause a CEL. Newer car computers check O2 levels before and after the cats for comparison to make sure the cat is doing it's job. If they read the same, it will send up a CEL code. Instead, go with a header, and maybe a slightly larger diameter (like 2.25") cat and catback system. Get a stock style muffler for the larger diameter tubing. It will be slightly louder, but should still be mellow. BTW, removing the cat will make it louder too.

If I had a three month old son, I'd be more worried about what I was doing to his environment by running an auto without a catalytic converter.

Get a free flowing cat. converter .Check JEGS catalog. I used one on a 1980 Malibu and had them leave the muffler of and it sounded pretty good . It didn't roar but had a little throaty sound to it. It was carburated and I had to adjust it a little but your computer should adjust gas flow for ya. Just remember, more power, more gas!

If you change to a high flow catalytic convertor you should see an increase in gas mileage. Don't think it will affect the HP though. Changing out the catalytic convertor isn't cheap, and they don't make your car any noisier.

removing the cats will give you slightly better power (read, a couple hp), but also make your car loud and illegal to drive. You also wont be able to get it inspected.

and if you wanted a fast car. why did you buy a cavalier?
